Organizing Director
PCUN’s Mission
PCUN’s mission is to empower farmworkers and Latinx working families through community building, increasing representation, and systems change at the state and national levels. Our fundamental goal since our founding has been to end exploitation and all of its effects it has had on farmworkers – and that legacy continues today.
We’re looking for a dedicated, passionate, and experienced organizer – to lead our team of organizers at PCUN, and to direct and create the vision of our organizing and outreach programs. The goals of the program revolve around several strategies and tactics to build a strong feeling of community which includes training volunteers, building tools for workers, collection testimonies and documenting stories from the fields and other worksites, building a strong list of potential supporters and members to follow-up with about attending informational events, and trainings. Our organizing campaigns change from season to season – but the central point is to empower workers.
A few campaigns the Organizing Director will lead involve organizing and outreach around Covid-19 Vaccines, Wildfire Rapid Response, Farmworker Rights Education, referrals to wrap around services and resources to support BIPOC communities in both Marion and Polk counties. As well as support other educational campaigns in the organization to ensure there is department crosscolaboration. The Organizing Director is also part of the executive team supporting the overall goals of PCUN.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Committed PCUN’s values of social, racial and economic justice.
- Bachelors in Arts, Bachelor’s Degree in Science, or Depending on Experience. ● At least 4 years leading and executing organizing base building campaigns. ● At least 2 years of full-time experience supervising and developing community organizers.
- Demonstrated ability to meet multiple deadlines and able to develop and move projects forward with independence and autonomy
- Self-motivated and works well both independently and on a team
- Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, manage multiple projects
- Ability to take direction and constructive feedback
- Drivers license and access to a car
- A minimum 2-year commitment to the position
- Bilingual Spanish and English – and Bicultural with a deep understanding of Latinx communities. Indigenous languages a plus but not required:

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead our organizing; including supervising and coaching lead community organizers from the Organizing Department – mainly made up of community organizers. ● Training and coaching core volunteers, farmworkers and immigrant Latinx families – and developing those leaders to create become members and conduct local organizing and campaign activities
- Conducting mass trainings for members to build organizing skills
- Develop the political consciousness of leaders and members through popular education, reflection, leadership development and developing appropriate educational materials ● Support actions, trainings, and mobilization opportunities in order to activate members and activists
- Participate in campaign development, strategizing and implementation internally and with statewide coalition partners
- Create and implement outreach and organizing plans for education and engagement of farmworkers, and Latinx working families.
○ Consult, and inform the process of building and implementing organizing plans and strategies with Organizing Leads from each department.
○ Develop a streamlined and universal process for all organizers to utilize in order to build toward an organization-wide goal.
○ Convene the organizer workgroup to align these reporting mechanisms, and identify opportunities and challenges for collaboration cross department. ● Develop outreach strategies and tactics: mass texting programs, phonebanks, face-to-face, digital organizing.
- Data Entry – and high-level understanding of EveryAction
- Weekly Fieldwork – and direct communication with organizing universe ● Bridging communications between PCUN’s key programs (Healthy Workplaces, Advocacy, Electoral, Worker Rights)
- Represent PCUN on key organizing coalitions and committees – several organizing committees and issue based campaign coalitions.
- Organizing for Legislative Campaigns, Volunteer coordination for general events. ● Lead Annual Worker’s Summit, and supportive role at Annual Member Convention. ● Core member of the Executive Team.
- Some fundraising, grant writing and reporting to help executive team
Salary & Benefits:
- $65,000-$70,000 depending on experience per year FT Salary

Other: Some evenings and weekends; currently a hybrid (will shift to full in person) position due to COVID-19 pandemic; COVID-19 vaccination unless exemption on religious or health basis.
